Welcome to Takehara<\/p>\n

Hawaii\u2019s Honouliuli Middle School students come to visit<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We welcomed 19 visitors from Hawaii\u2019s Honouliui Middle School to Takehara city on June 12th<\/sup>, 2025, for a four-day visit.\u00a0 The group comprised of 14 students, the school principal, 3 teachers and one trip coordinator, visited Takehara city\u2019s Middle Schools and other locations.<\/p>\n

During their stay, Honouliuli renewed their sister-school relations with a local Takehara middle school. \u00a0By deepening our international exchanges, we hope to continue furthering our understanding of each other\u2019s countries and cultures, strengthen our friendship and cooperation, and contribute to a long lasting peace.<\/p>\n

Hawaii and Takehara students exchanges<\/p>\n

A total of 19 students and staff members from Hawaii\u2019s Honouliuli Middle School came to Takehara city, and toured the preservation district for groups of traditional buildings. Eight of our city\u2019s middle schools students guided the visiting group, as they are part of the city\u2019s overseas exchange program, and will be travelling to Hawaii in August this year.<\/p>\n

After their first meeting, the students divided into 8 groups and toured buildings in the preservation district such as the old Matsuzaka merchant family\u2019s mansion.<\/p>\n

The students from Hawaii worked on bamboo windmills, while Takehara students assisted them, putting their English into practice.<\/p>\n

The students of the overseas exchange program will be participating in the peace ceremonies on August 6th<\/sup> at the Hiroshima city Naka district.\u00a0 On the 14th<\/sup> they will depart for Hawaii where they will be home staying, making presentations on peace at the USS Battleship Missouri Memorial in Pearl Harbor, as well as other activities.<\/p>\n

Ms. Akiho Masumori, a 9th<\/sup> grader at the Yoshina Academy Compulsory Education School commented \u201cI will be re-studying the current state of Hiroshima to better prepare for my presentation in Hawaii, and hope to learn more about the attack on Pearl Harbor during my time there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hiroshima city begun its overseas program in 2020, and has supported middle school students going to the state of Hawaii since 2022.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
