Last year, we traveled to Tokyo, Hiroshima & Fukuoka on a publicity tour to share how much educational potential Hawaii holds! Together with us were:
The First Lady of the State of Hawai’i,
The Superintendent of Hawai’i State Department of Education,
A Hawai’i State Senator,
The Associate Dean of University of Hawai’i,
The Administrator of DBEDT(Hawai’i State Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism),
The Principals of Hawai’i State public schools,
and the Vice President of Hawai’i Tourism Japan.
Quite an impressive crew! During our time in Hiroshima, we even got interviewed by the NHK (Japanese national broadcasting company) news show!
As you may know, the State of Hawai’i and Hiroshima Prefecture are actually sister states, as well as the City & County of Honolulu and Hiroshima City being sister cities. Surrounded by the lush green scenery of Hiroshima, we were able to tie a partnership between the Hawai’i State Department of Education and the Hiroshima Prefecture Board of Education.
The Hawai’i Global Education Foundation has also been working together with the Hiroshima Board of Education on many other educational projects such as; short term high school exchange programs, homestay programs, sending teachers to japan for training purposes, and more.
“Look, you’re on TV!” was the message an excited member of the Board of Education in Sera Town sent us along with this photo! It looks to be the same moment when they took the photo at the top of this page.
I should also mention, the students from Sera Town will be coming to Hawai’i again this summer! Looking forward to seeing all of you again!
