Dr. Tsumaki of Hiroshima Jyogakuin University has been coming to Hawaii with her students from the Department of Nutrition and Health for many years. She came this year to do her own research and HGEF was able to assist her during her stay.
Her interest was to find out how we are accommodating people with food allergies. She wanted to visit places from farms and supermarkets where food is sourced to schools and organizations where food will be served. One of the places she visited was a special farm in North Shore called, the University of Hawaii Poamoho Research Station. Obviously, this farm is designed for research purposes, so they don’t harvest like commercial farms. Rather, they plant specific species of vegetable or fruit seedlings to find whether they would be a good fit for Hawaii’s climate and other environmental condition.
