KSU Summer Program 2026 for UH West O’ahu

Dates: June 1 (Mon) – June 13 (Sat), 2026

Kyushu Sangyo University (KSU) in Fukuoka welcomed nine students from the University of Hawai’i – West O’ahu for their 3rd annual two-week summer program.

The group included students ranging from complete beginners in Japanese to those who were already comfortable communicating in the language. Their diverse language backgrounds helped create a supportive learning environment where participants encouraged and motivated one another, celebrated each other’s progress, and gained confidence through meaningful communication and shared experiences.

Designed to combine language learning with cultural immersion, the program offered students the opportunity to develop practical Japanese language skills while interacting with KSU students in authentic, everyday situations. Through classroom instruction, group activities, and meaningful conversations, participants gained confidence in using Japanese and deepened their understanding of Japanese culture.

Outside the classroom, students explored some of Fukuoka’s most popular destinations, experienced local traditions, and discovered the unique charm of the city. KSU student leaders helped bring the experience to life by organizing activities, sharing insights about the region, and fostering connections between students from Japan and Hawaiʻi.

More than just a language program, the experience served as a bridge between cultures, creating lasting friendships and unforgettable memories. Through learning, exploration, and cultural exchange, students from both universities gained valuable perspectives and a deeper appreciation for one another’s communities.
