Aloha,
My name is Lei Kealoha.
I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad at at Kyushu Sangyo University in Fukuoka, Japan. A bit about myself: I am an unconventional first-generation student at the University of Hawaiʻi West Oʻahu, currently working towards my BA in Hawaiian Indigenous Health and Healing. I am 48 years old, a mother, a wife, and a full-time manager in the hospitality industry.
During my time at Kyushu Sangyo University, I not only learned the Japanese language but also gained a deeper understanding of its culture and rich history. The entire program, from start to finish, was thoughtfully designed, featuring excursions led by wonderful individuals who shared their wealth of knowledge with us. We also participated in exhibitions that provided hands-on, real-life experiences.
The classes we attended were exceptional, utilizing unique props, songs, and pictures. This approach allowed me to confidently engage in conversations using the Japanese language without fear. I am forever grateful for the experience that the Kyushu Sangyo University, its professors, instructors, students & affiliates had gifted me.
