Sera Town Youth Program

09/12/2024

8/16 – 21/2024

Sera Town Youth Program has a long history, and we were pleased to assist 6 junior high school students and 2 chaperons this summer. Sera Town has the sister school relationship with Niu Valley Middle School in Honolulu, and the group spent a whole day at the school on August 19. The host students from Niu Valley took Sera Town students to classes, including PE. This was the first time for Principal Shitaoka of Niu Valley to host Sera Town. He showed them a plan for the Peace Garden at school, and a couple of them were able to paint a pohaku (stone) which will be placed at the garden.

At the workshop over dinner with the Honolulu Hiroshima Kenjin Kai, the students learned that Hiroshima was one of the prefectures which sent so many immigrants to Hawaii. It is a wonderful occasion for young Japanese students to meet Sansei, Yonsei, and Shin-issei in Hawaii. We appreciate the opportunity to assist bridging a local organization to a group of Japanese students every year.
